Give and It Will Be Given to You

Luke 6:38 AMP
“Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over  [with no space left for more]. For with the standard of measurement you use [when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return.”

Jesus encouraged the freedom to give without fearing that we will become the loser in our giving. He wanted to set us free from the fear of giving too much. Most people fear giving anyway, but most feel like giving is a drudgery.

In this passage, Jesus promotes lavish giving, not in terms of return but giving as an attitude of the heart. Jesus says when we give unselfishly and when we give with out the thought of what we will get back people will pour into our laps good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

Why? Because of our generosity and the favor of God over our lives. Jesus finishes this thought with; “for with the standard of measurement you use [when you do good to others], it will be measured to you in return.”

Prayer:
Lord, teach Your people to be givers, not begrudgingly but lavish givers. Giving out of their heart with grace and humility.
