Galatians 5:16-17 ESV

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do (that pleases God).”

We are driven by the flesh, and by the flesh I mean our mind, our will, emotions, reactions, desires, and selfish behavior that pleases only ourselves. We cannot walk by the Spirit of God and please God as long as we are trying to please ourselves.

If we want the things of God we have to sacrifice our selfish desires and all that comes with the works of the flesh. And we have to lay ourselves before God and ask Him for His Spirit will take control. But we have to be willing to give up everything that only pleases us. In order to walk in the Spirit. We can’t have it both ways!
