Romans 12:2 ESV
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Change is never easy. I remember when I first married my wife, I had no idea how to be a good husband. My idea of being a good husband was having a good job and coming home and chilling.

Because I’m self employed that didn’t work out either, I did not take good paying jobs and I worked long hours. Bad went to worse when I started a business that I had no business being in. Not only was I working six days a week I was working sometimes twelve to fourteen hours a day, working out of town and not making enough money to bring home any viable funds.

I realized my wife was miserable and if momma ain’t happy then nobody is happy. After talking to God, seeing a counselor, and starting to listen to my wife, I began to see I needed to change.

In the midst of all of this the business that I got involved with failed and I was devastated. I had put my wife on the back burner and life was miserable. It took some time to change, but at last I became who God wanted me to be.

In this passage, Paul speaks of changing our lives by renewal in God. First, Paul says don’t be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. To me that means break the habit, break the pattern of destruction that this world brings us through then start working on a transformation by renewing the mind.

The mind is a battle field, Satan puts so much in front of us and we get confused of who we are and what we are supposed to be. To break the cycle, we transform our mind through God’s Word and through communication with God. If we follow this process, we will be able to please God.

Prayer:
Father, it’s not easy to change and only you can help us to transform ourselves from mere human beings led down a path of destruction to being Your children. Pleasing You will please us!
