Friday
In the Spirit

Ephesians 5:18b-20 NLT
“…Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts.  And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Psychologists say that when we are singing, it’s almost impossible to think about other things. Like the challenges of our daily lives. But beyond trying to tune things out; when we are filled with the Spirit of God, we are prompted by the Spirit to sing, worship and praise the Lord.

Paul says to sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among ourselves. That is corporate worship. There is nothing like really great corporate worship.

This passage says, we should also carry a song in our heart. The best advice for us this morning is for us to wake up, remain thankful, understand why we are thankful and burst out in song. You can burst out in song with your voice, if you like. If not, sing it loud and strong in your head. But keep it going, don’t stop. Why, because it pleases the Lord, it lifts our Spirit and that combination will bring great rewards.

Giving thanks to the Lord happens when we sing to ourselves. Also, when we sing with a close friend, or when we are worshipping and praising together as a body of believers.

Prayer:
Lord, may I continously carry a song in my heart, giving thanks, praise, glory and honor to you. Just because I love you!
