Answer Me When I Call

Psalms 4:1 ESV
“Answer me when I call, O God of my  righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!”

David was not suggesting that God does not answer his prayers, he is just desperate for God to hear him. This Psalm shows the passion in David’s cry. He didn’t want to just cast up words toward heaven, he wanted and needed God’s attention to his present problem.

Often power in prayer is lacking because there is little passion in prayer. It isn’t that we persuade God by emotional displays, but God wants us to care deeply about the things we are praying about.

“You have given me relief when I was in distress.” David used past mercy as a ground for future help. This is not a gimmick, this shows God that we remember when he delivers, we remember when God answered prayer. And God does hear and answer, often we don’t take note or recognize His answers.

To often we are like the man that was in a crowded parking lot looking for a parking space. He prayed that God would open up a space for him. As the man turned the corner there was an empty space just in front of him. He said, “never mind God I found one on my own.”

Prayer:
Lord, you have heard and answered a million of my prayers. I pray I am never indifferent or lackadaisical in my prayers to You. I desire to pray with passion!
