Perfect Peace

Isaiah 26:3 ESV
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in You.”

In Hebrew, the term perfect peace is actually shalom shalom. This shows how in Hebrew, repetition communicates intensity. It’s not just shalom; it is shalom shalom. To be kept in this perfect peace, our mind must be stayed on the Lord.

According to Strong’s Dictionary, the Hebrew word for stayed comes from the root “to prop,” and has the idea “to lean upon or take hold of…bear up, establish or uphold. To be kept in this perfect peace, our mind must be stayed on the LORD. If our mind is stayed on ourselves, or our problems, or the problem people in our lives, or on anything else, we can’t have this perfect peace.

Isaiah ends this verse with the thought that we keep our minds stayed on God because we trust Him with every area of our lives. There is nothing else to take our attention away. Proverbs 3:5-6 expresses the same idea; “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Prayer:
Father, we keep our focus on You. There is none like You. You are the giver of life, You hold all things in Your hands. You are all powerful there is no one or entity that is equal to You. We trust You with every area of our lives.
