Keep Me From the Same Old Lies

1 John 2:16 NKJV

“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.”

All the sins of man fall in three categories. It has been so for about 6000 to 7000 years, since Adam and Eve. When Eve saw the tree in the garden she was tempted. Was it because it was a delight to the eyes or did she see the fruit of the tree of life would be good for food. Perhaps how good it would taste although it was forbidden. This was the sin of lust of the flesh.

So when the woman saw that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. Then she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. This was the sin of the pride of life. Adam and Eve wanted to be equal with God.

Lust of the eyes and the pride of life is why Satan was thrown out of heaven? He saw what God had and wanted it for himself. Why this subject for a devotion? Know Satan’s schemes. His tricks may look different, but they are all based on the same old pattern.

Prayer:

Lord, keep me in the palm of Your hand. I know that through every temptation of sin, You have provided a way for me to escape.  I trust in You. Let my eyes, my heart, and my mind to be stayed up on You!
