Love for God, Love for People

Matthew 22:27-30 ESV
“And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.  This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

We all will say it is easy to love God, but sometimes it’s not so easy to love others. John says in 1 John 4:20b, “…he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.”

When we love God with all our heart, we give Him our whole heart and He then guides our heart. When we say we love God with all of our soul (the true decision making part of our being) then all our decisions will be godly. When we say we love God with all if our mind, then every thought is subject to His authority.

Jesus went a step further, He said the second commandment was like the first, that is, to really love our neighbor, we unselfishly seek the best or higher good for other people. “…love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… love your neighbor as yourself.”

Prayer:
Father, thank you for Your incredible love for me. My desire is to love You the way You deserve to be love, the way You want to be loved!
