John 4:24 ESV
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

If we are to be honest with ourselves, the act of worship is generally don In a manner to please ourselves. We want the right songs, the right rhythm, and the right atmosphere. But Jesus in this passage is telling the Samaritan women at the well, “You worship what you do not know…”

To worship God means you intimately know God and have a sense of amazement of who God is. Jesus tells us that true worshipers will worship God in spirit and in truth. This means we worship from our Spirit, because the Spirit inside of us was given to us by God. His Spirit in us knows exactly how to worship God.

So, when we worship, we forget about ourselves, we concentrate on Him and allow His Spirit inside of us to worship in a manner that pleases God. We forget about our surroundings, the people around us and possibly even the song. We begin to worship just because it pleases God. He must be the object of our affection. Let’s get honest with ourselves, honest with God and just seek to honor and adore Him.

Prayer:
Father, as one of our choruses says, ” I’m sorry Lord for the thing (worship) I’ve made it, it’s all about You!” Help to forget about myself and concentrate on You, and worship You.
