Fellowship

Acts 2:46-47 ERV
“The believers shared a common purpose, and every day they spent much of their time together in the Temple area. They also ate together in their homes. They were happy to share their food and ate with joyful hearts.  The believers praised God and were respected by all the people. More and more people were being saved every day, and the Lord was adding them to their group.”

The New Testament church, the beginning of Christianity, started with fellowship, worshiping the Lord together and eating together. They were not made to get together, they were not even asked to get together, they just got together. True fellowship and camaraderie were the essence of the oneness that they felt in allowing Jesus to live through them.

Notice that Luke wrote; “They were happy to share their food and ate with joyful hearts.” Joy was one of the effects of this community and joy kept them together. Luke wrote in verse 47; “The believers praised God and were respected by all the people.”

I believe that respect came about because this beginning group was loving, respectful, and they had true commitment. They did not look down on anyone, judge anyone or condemn. Their love, fellowship, and demeanor was infectious.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to get back to that beginning sense of oneness and fellowship that the New Testament church had. Let that camaraderie happen all over the world with true Christians. In Your name Lord, Amen!
