Joshua 6:12-13 ESV

“Then Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.  And the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord walked on, and they blew the trumpets continually. And the armed men were walking before them, and the rear guard was walking after the ark of the Lord, while the trumpets blew continually.”

Finally after 40 years of desert dwelling, Israel had come into the promised land. Their first task was to take down the most fortified city of their time. Not exactly the way we would break in a new army but that was exactly why God gave them this task: He was going to give them this first victory without them having to face and fight their enemy. The Priests sounded the the shofar, a rams horn that let out a very distinctive scream. Then the mighty men marched before them and the mighty men marched after the Priests. Seven days this happened, I can only imagine what this was doing to the minds of the people on the wall.

Scared, uncertain, worried they watched this for seven days, and then God showed His power. It was a great victory, but only God could get the credit. The news of this one miracle went through the land like wildfire and it set the people in the land in fear. When God shows Himself in our lives, even though those we would call our enemies will shudder with fear. Not that they fear us, they will fear God.

Prayer:
Father, when You are for me, who can be against me?
