Allowing the Holy Spirit to Move

1 Corinthians 2:1-5 ESV
“And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not I come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom.  For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.  And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling,  and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,  so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”

Paul was extremely wise, and well educated. Of the 27 books of the New Testament, Paul wrote 14. The Corinthian church was an extremely complex church with many problems. Paul decided the best appoach would be not to use lofty words or eliquint speech when he came to build this church, he decided his best approach to this fragmented group was to give them the basics:

Jesus Christ and Him crucified, the gospel in a nutshell. Instead of using his head knowledge and wisdom, he would allow the Holy Spirit to do a work among this troubled church. That way, their faith would not reside in a man but purely in the Holy Spirit and Christ Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord, don’t let me get in the way with my head knowledge when trying to do Your work. Let me allow the Holy Spirit to take over and do a perfect work.
