2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV

“Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…”

Sometimes we give our thoughts too much credence. If our thoughts are not building us up but instead bringing fear and intimidation, then we need to get rid of the thoughts that bring us down and keep us down.

Paul addresses a deep seated problem in spiritual warfare, it’s the battle of the mind. Our thoughts often motivate us and at times control us. The mind can be truly remarkable when it is used for good and developing strong positive habits but too often the mind is manipulated by thoughts that tear us down and destroy us.

Paul says, “Casting down arguments and every high thing (lofty and sophisticated thoughts that are harmful) that exalts itself against the knowledge of God.” The Greek philosophers, in Paul’s age, sat around just thinking of things to top one another most of their thoughts were pointless and confusing.

Paul says get rid of these thoughts that do not further our lives or the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Simply put, get rid of anything and everything in our minds that keeps us from being who God intended us to be. Get rid of every thought that seperates us from God.

In addition, we need to get rid of every thought that seperates us from one another. If the enemy can keep us thinking bad thoughts against ourselves and one another he will achieve his goal at keeping us from being who we are in Christ.

Paul adds, “…bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ…” If we train our brain to get rid of the wrong thoughts and run every thought through Jesus Christ we will save ourselves from defeatist attitudes and stop most of the silly arguments we engage in with one another.

Prayer:

Father, I get rid of the thoughts that do not line up with the directives of your word. and I bring every thought that comes into my mind to the throne of grace. Give me the mind of Christ today.
