Mark 3: 3-5 NLT

“Jesus said to the man with the deformed hand, “Come and stand in front of everyone.”  Then he turned to his critics and asked, “Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him. He looked around at them angrily and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts.”

Jesus was angry with the Pharisees but deeply sadden by their hard hearts. Why? They were the religious leaders, Jesus gave them the opportunity to say the right thing but they said nothing. He gave them the opportunity to have compassion, but their hardness of heart to destroy Jesus got in the way..

Jesus shown a light on their darkness and they hated Him for it. Their hatred for Jesus got in the way of them having compassion for this man or anyone else that needed healing. They forgot who they were supposed to be representing, God!
