Isaiah 61:3 ESV
“…the Lord has anointed me to…to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit…”

When a person was in morning or fasting or in repentance in the Old Testament, They wore sackcloth and sat in ashes and put ashes on their head symbolizing penitence and remorse in the hopes of appeasing the wrath of God.

In this passage, Isaiah prophecied about the work of the Messiah and Jesus stood in the temple in Luke, reading this passage as the Messiah, giver of mercy and grace. He promised a beautiful headdress for the ashes of morning.

He promised the oil of joy and gladness instead of the oil used for burial. A garment or praise and adoration for the spirit of heaviness and burdens. He wants to turn your morning into dancing.

Prayer:
Father, in just the right time, You sent Your Son to rescue me from life’s difficulties and pain!
