The Word Became Flesh

John 1:14 ESV
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

The term “Word,” in the Greek translation is the word Logos. It usually implies a total message, and is used mostly in reference to God’s message to mankind. For example, Luke 4:32 says that, when Jesus taught the people, “they were amazed at his teaching, because his words [logos] had authority.”

The people were amazed, not merely by the particular words Jesus chose but by His total message. The Word” (Logos) in John 1:14 is referring to Jesus. Jesus is the total Message—everything that God wants to communicate to man. John used this Greek concept to communicate the fact that Jesus, the Second Person of the Trinity, is the self-expression of God to the world.

We do not work our way to God but in Christ, God comes to us. If you don’t remember anything else about Christmas, remember that God pursued us in Christ, and He continues to do so every day! We do not worship a distant God but rather a dwelling God – the God who makes His home in us. “… the Word became flesh and dwelt (dwells) among (in) us.”

Prayer:
Father, Your love, compassion, mercy, forgiveness, and grace is so amazing. In my mind I don’t deserve You, but You came to me anyway, and provided a way back to You!
