Seen a Great Light

Isaiah 9:2 ESV
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”

If you read Isaiah 8 it speaks of a depraved people who are not afraid to speak evil of the government or their God, (Basically dissatisfied with anything and everyone). Verse 8: 22 says; “And they will look to the earth, but behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish. And they will be thrust into thick darkness.”

Pay attention to the words, “Distress and darkness and the gloom of anguish.” That is a seriously depressed nation. So God sends the words through Isaiah, “those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.”

That was what the Messiah was to be to Israel, a “Great Light.” A light so bright that it would lead them out of darkness and depression. A light so bright that they no longer had to grope around trying to find the right path, the Messiah would show them all things clearly.

Today, we are in the same state of mind, not just America but the world. This is a dark world, and the darkness is getting darker minute by minute. The brazen attitudes, and careless state of mind is mind boggling. The Messiah has come, and His light is brighter than ever. If His light is bright on and in us, we have a hope and a future that is bright.

We may live in a seemingly dark world, but we are children of the light. It’s kind of like living in a snow globe; we carry that light wherever we go, despite what the world is doing. “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” (Ephesians 5:8)

Prayer:
Father, thank you for the answer to the deep darkness of the world, Your Son is the Great Light that shines in our hearts and lives.
