Jesus as Savior

Luke 2:8-9,11 ESV

“And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And an angel of the Lord appeared to them…And the angel said to them, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

To understand Jesus’ role as Savior, we have to understand our own desperate situations. We have sinned against God! and sin produces death. Without Jesus, we are helplessly enslaved by sin and we cannot ever achieve holiness on our own.

That is where Jesus stepped in, Jesus is perfect and has never sinned, that’s what makes Him a perfect Savior. He lived a perfectly righteous life but He chose to die a horrific death on the cross for us. Then He rose again three days later, establishing His victory over death, hell and the grave. Because of His death and resurrection, anyone who trusts in Him can have eternal life.

Jesus came as Savior and He saves us from our sin by forgiving us of our sins. He saves us from death by giving us eternal life. He saves us from the degradation of the world by separating, empowering, and sanctifying us. He saves us from the devil, who deceives the world.

Jesus did not simply save us from something, He saved us for something. He saved us for a relationship with God, who loves us. Jesus made reconciliation with God possible, allowing us to approach God as our heavenly Father. By His grace, and not by our works, we are saved for an eternity with God, worshiping Him, enjoying Him, and being loved by Him forever (Ephesians 2:5–10).

No other person, philosophy, or work can reconcile us to our Holy Creator. Jesus, our Savior, covers over all our sins, past, present, and future.

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for saving me from from sin and degradation and saving me from my own stinking thinking.
