They Do Not Know Him

1 John 3:1 ESV
“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

It’s an honor to be called children of God. There is no reason whatsoever to hide the fact of our kinship. We belong to God. To the world who do not know God, we are offensive, and crazy to them. They have no idea why we can’t just be like them.

In the first century Peter wrote to his followers; “You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy—their immorality and lust, their feasting and drunkenness and wild parties, and their terrible worship of idols. Of course, your former friends are surprised when you no longer plunge into the flood of wild and destructive things they do. So they slander you.” (1Peter 4:3-4NLT)

John, in our passage today says, “The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him (Jesus).” As long as they do not know Him, we will always be at odds. What we have to do is introduce the world to Jesus.

Some will receive Him and know Him, and some will reject Him and will be judged in the end. We cannot sequester ourselves, we have to spread the word of Jesus as fast as we can, reach the world for Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord, we have true life and purpose because we know Jesus. Even though we are in the world we do not have to be like the world. Help me to be like you.
