Keeping Our Eyes Fixed on Jesus

Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.”

There is a lot packed into these two verses but I just want to pull out three things that will get us through to victory, victoriously!

  1. Get rid of everything that slows us down, trips us up. Things that plague us, the past, or past sins, or little things that hold us back from becoming who we were designed to be.
  2. Running our race with endurance. Not short bursts here and there but staying strong for the long haul, the rest of the time here on earth. Not being Sunday Christians but being the best that we can be every day, in every way!
  1. Keeping our eyes on Jesus. Keeping our eyes on Him will make the first two actions that I wrote about easier.

It’s when we lose focus of Him that we begin to drift off the trail, slow down, sit down, take a nap, so to speak. When we stop trying to press closer to Him, we start making excuses why we can’t do all He has empowered us to be. Remain steadfast, fix our gaze on Him continuously, then we will not stumble or lose or way.

Prayer:
Lord, if we are honest, sometimes we have ADHD! We lose focus, we watch whatever is shiny or what looks more exciting for the moment. Pull us back into focus, strengthen our resolve, keep us running our race! In Your name Lord, Amen!
