Expectations
Philippians 4:6 ESV
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
Anxiety and anxiousness is real. What brings us to the point of being anxious? Typically, it is expectations that have not manifested themselves as yet. We expect good things to happen, but sometimes all we see is the bad. When the good comes, it seems to come in a cloud and sometimes we miss it or fail to celebrate the good. So, the next time we go through the same process.
As Christians, what do we do about our expectations and anxiousness? We give them to God the best that we can. I’m not being unrealistic, I too suffer from anxiety and I do my best at casting all my cares on Him. At times, my anxiety sneaks up on me unsuspectedly. At other times it’s just because I worry about an outcome, but not on purpose, or out of fear. As my wife sometimes says, my anxiety is self-induced because of my expectations for myself. I set the bar too high for myself, and sometimes I get in the way of God moving.
What is the answer? Whether we have debilitation anxiety or self-induced anxiety, we cast it upon the Lord because He cares so deeply for us. He does not want us to fear, dread, worry or be anxious about anything, He just wants us to trust Him. My advice is to lean on Him heavily for every situation, because I promise You He knows the outcome of every situation before it happens.
Prayer:
Lord, You have seen everything in the past, present, and in the future. As we give You full control of our lives, our expectations can be trusted to You, because we trust You. After all You know what is happening and will happen in the future events of our lives. We cast our cares on You because You care so deeply for us and our situations. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
