Peace of Mind
Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
Understanding that our peace of mind is not the responsibility of other people. The circumstances that we hope will happen that will control our peace is typically not the answer to lasting peace. We wait for other people to say something kind to us, or give us good news, and when it doesn’t come, we may feel dejected. It is not the responsibility of any one person to bring us happiness or fulfillment except for Jesus. When we choose that path of waiting for other people or circumstances to bring us peace, we will continually be disappointed.
I find that I had to get myself in the right frame of mind. I cannot depend on anyone’s words, because they are seldom enough for my ego, as pathetic as that may sound. My sufficiency is in Jesus, He knows exactly what I need, and what I need to hear. He knows what will build me up, and He knows what will slow me down to enjoy the moment. So the right frame of mind is for me to get my mind on the things that are true, the things that will bring Jesus honor in my life, and not myself. I guess you could say the more I take my thoughts and feelings out of the equation, the happier I become.
Prayer:
Lord for those this morning that need encouraging, blessed, praised, honored, bring them good news, but let them know it came from you and not just mortal man. In Your name Lord, lift them up and bring them peace of mind, not because of circumstances, but because of You. In Your name Lord Jesus, Amen!
