Memorial Day

John 15:13 ESV

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

This passage was spoken by Jesus about His impending death that would be the redemption for all mankind. He gave the ultimate sacrifice to provide the only way back to God.

Today is a day of honor for all of those who served our country and gave their lives to make us free. This day of honor started in the Civil War times as “Decoration Day” because the war would stop on this day and the graves of the fallen soldiers would be decorated with flowers to honor their ultimate sacrifice.

After World War 1 this day became “Memorial Day” in honor of those who gave their lives so that we could live in a free country without fear or reprisal from those who would try and take away our freedom. Today we stand in honor of our fallen soldiers, male and female, that gave their lives so that we could remain free. To those soldiers, we honor you today.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your ultimate sacrifice.  Thank You for boundless love, we owe You our all for laying down Your life so that we can become free from sin. Thank You for the sacrifice of those who fought and died for our country. Help, heal, restore, revitalize those families that are suffering from a lost loved one that gave their lives for this great country to live in freedom. Provide for their needs. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
