The Good With the Bad

Psalms 23:4 ESV

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; (because) Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.”

I have been in a few tough spots in my life, but that’s life, we do live in a fallen world. We are not home yet in heaven, where it is perfect. So, we should expect some things that will try to hurt us because we live in a foreign land. In all the times of trouble, when I was walking with the Lord, after the initial shock or fear set in, there has always been a calm that comes with those troubled times, those storms of life. What is that? It is the peace and rest of God, the assurance that God is there. God is always there for us, to strengthen when we cannot bear the load of troubles.

David said in this Psalm, “The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” David knew there would always be times of plenty, but with those times of plenty will come times of trouble. Trouble will only be for a moment unless we get caught up in those times and forget to move on.

Prayer:

Lord, because we know that You are there with us, we will take the bad with the good. Just knowing that “weeping may endure for a night, but joy will come in the morning,” (Psalms 30:5). Joy never left, we just get sidelined for a moment and give away our joy. Lord, lead us in paths of righteousness for Your names sake; bring us back to the joy that You provide even when there are tough times. In Your name Lord Jesus we pray, Amen!
