Presumptuous Thinking

Psalms 19:13-14 ESV
“Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins (sins that we commit willfully without thought), let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”

David is asking God to remind us of the sins that we commit without thought, even those sins that we believe are just silly, but they are still sin. David adds, “Don’t let them have dominion over me.”

My interpretation: those things that I have convinced myself that are not sin, (but they really are sin), don’t let them control me any more.

And the last verse is where most of us stumble; “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Your sight…”

Let the things I say, and even the things that I think, be what pleases You Father, most of all. Don’t allow me to kill or hurt with my words.

Prayer:
Father, we convince ourselves we are ok, within our bounds, and we make excusses for our behavior and words, Forgive us our debts, and presumptuous sins Father God!
