Esther 4:14 ESV
“… And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

In the story of Esther, Mordecai, her cousin, was desperate to save the Jews from annihilation. His only hope rested on God but the avenue to save had to come through the King. Esther had been the queen for just a short time, and in the past thirty days the king had not even called for the queen to come into his throne room.

The law said that anyone who approach the King without being summoned, they would be executed. Mordecai pleaded with Esther to go into the King to help save the Jews but she was afraid. In Mordecai’s last plea to his cousin he said, “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 ESV)

Mordecai’s faith was in God but he knew his cousin had the opportunity to be a part of the salvation of the Jews. A lot of times we come to crossroads in our lives, we have to make tough decisions that affect not just ourselves but others as well. We have to ask ourselves an important question, has God placed me here, at this moment, for such a time as this?

Prayer:
Father, I have been at those crossroads a number of times in my life. I haven’t always acted as I should have or spoken the things that I should have. Help me to see the opportunities that you place before me. Teach me to be a man of action. For I may have been born and nutured for such a time as this!
