Faith is Our Shield

Ephesians 6:16 ESV
“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.”

This shield of faith is more than an implement of war, because we are in a war with evil and good, this shield is a standard. We have faith in God and everyone should see that fait. Even more importantly satan should see the faith that we have in God, that despite what is happening in our lives, He is our hope, the one we trust in no matter what flamming darts that are hurled our way.

At the time that Paul was writing about the shield of faith, it was believed that some armies would coat their shields with material that absorbed water. These shields would be a defense when the enemy shot arrows that were on fire.

Isaiah 54:17 says, “…NO weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from Me. I, the Lord, have spoken!” (NLT)

Prayer:
Lord, when we are in a battle, sometimes it seems like we are fighting for our lives and in a sense we are. I know in 2 Chronicles 20:15 You said that they would not have to fight that battle that day.

Israel needed to see your hand move to build their faith, sometimes we need the same. Whether I have to fight or not, that is Your decision, as long as I never have to fight without You by my side.
