Psalms 119:1,3 NLT
“Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord.  They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.”

in the book of Daniel, Nebuchadnezzar constructed a giant statue made of gold. The statue was ninety feet tall. Nebuchadnezzar made a decree that “when anyone heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music” they should fall down and worship this golden statue.

Now Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were three Hebrew men that served Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon but they were true to serve only God. It was reported that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego refused to bow down to the statue.

Nebuchadnezzar was furious. The king had a furnace in the palace and anyone who refused to bow to the statue was thrown into the furnace. The King had the three Hebrew men brought to him and he told them that he would give them one more chance to bow and worship the statue or he would have them thrown them in the furnace.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego told the king that
They would not bow to his statue. They said they only serve the one true God. The King became very angree and had the furnace made seven times hotter. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were thrown into the furnace but they did not die as the king supposed. In fact not a hair on their head, nor the clothes they wore, nothing burned.

The King was so astonished at this that he made a decree that the only God that would be served would be Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego’s God. The miracle sometimes overshadows the lesson; the lesson is these three Hebrews did not compromise their beliefs and who they would serve.

Sometimes we compromise our values, beliefs and moral standards but what really brings God honor is when we “do not compromise…”and we “walk only in His paths.”

Prayer:
Father, help me to hold fast to you and never waver. Even though the world vacillates in who it serves, I will always trust in You, I pray You can always trust in me.
