Ecclesiastes5:1 ESV
“Guard your steps when you go to the house of God (or in your personal devotion time). To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil.”

The last part of this verse is talking about people that foolishly enter God’s presence with no expectations of meeting God, they just want to do their due diligence, get in, get out, give God a list of wants.

Here’s how we should enter God’s presence:

  1. Go before God with a humble and expectant heart. Look forward to going to church, reading your Bible and meeting God in prayer in your devotions.
  2. Prepare yourself to adore Him. Open your heart and spirit to emotionally connect with Him.
  3. Be prepared to concentrate. Turn off your cell-phone. Stop making mental lists of what you have to do. Stop planning and find a place in your head to focus on God, and only God.
  4. Approach your time of worship prepared to hear from God either through music or sermon or the Word of God.
  5. When God speaks to you, listen to what He is saying and take appropriate action.

Guard your steps when you enter into God’s presence.

Prayer:
Father, Help me to prepare before my devotions that I’m not going to be in a hurry. That I’m going to worship you in Spirit and in song, and I’m going to enjoy my time with You! And mostly that I’m going to listen and be a faithful doer of the words I hear.
