Matthew 5:20 ESV

“For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.”

Righteousness is not an action per se, it is the development or product of a right relationship with God and a requirement of God in the God-Human covenant. How do we obtain this righteousness that is required by God? By developing a relationship with God everyday at the closest level.
