Words Can Kill, Words Can Heal

Ecclesiastes 7:21 ESV
“Do not take to heart all the things that people say…”

I know a few people who have no filter when they speak. They say what they want to no matter who is listening or who gets hurt. Unfortunately most of those people that I know who are like that are Christians.

They feel like they are vindicated because they are Christian and they need to speak the truth no matter how much it hurts. Well, that’s not true, and to plead my case, here are a few scriptures that backup my defense.

“Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” Colossians 4:6 ESV

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” Psalms 19:14 ESV

“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…” Matthew 12:36 ESV

“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” Proverbs 16:24 ESV

Prayer:
Father, I know words can kill and words can build up. Let every word that I speak not be idol but fruitful. Words that strengthen, words that heal. Help me to be mindful of those that may over hear my conversations. Teach me to be responsible, and a living example if Jesus!
