Jesus Our Redeemer

The Apostles taught in their letters that Jesus is our Redeemer. Although the gospels don’t record Jesus using this title for Himself, you can’t read the gospels without observing that Jesus was mindful of His mission to redeem or ransom sinful people for God and reconcile them to Himself.

2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV. “For our sake He (God) made Him (Jesus) to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him (Jesus) we might become the righteousness of God.”

Titus 2:13-14 ESV. “…God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession who are zealous for good works.”

Jesus Christ redeemed us from all iniquity (wickedness that exists in the sinful nature of man apart from God) and He obtained it by giving Himself for us. In other words, He was the ransom of our redemption from “all iniquity”.

As He Himself also said in Matthew 20:28; “…even as the Son of Man came… to give His life as a ransom for many.” By calling Jesus our Redeemer, we confess that we cannot free ourselves from our bondage to sin. We confess that we indeed need of a divine physician.

By Jesus offering Himself in our place, He has set us free from the penalty and power of sin. As a result we have true life, not death, and an eternal destiny to be with Him forever.

Prayer:
Thank you, Father for Your love for us that You sent Your only Son our Redeemer to bring us back in right relationship with You!
