Before I Speak
Psalms 139:
“Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.”
When we read scriptures like this we tend to say, “oh Lord, forgive my mouth, for the things that come out of it, I know they are not always pleasing.” This scripture could be for rebuke, but it also is for blessings. God knows what is in our heart and what is in our heart tends to come out of our mouth.
As a child my mother used to have me repeat this Psalm after we prayed, “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer,” (Psalms 19:14 KJV). I did not understand all of those words, but I did get the concept that my words and my heart were tied together.
Yes God sees in our heart, but He is not just looking at the bad things in our heart with a glaring stare, rather, He is building up the good things in our heart to push out the bad things. So in this Psalm for today, since God knows our hearts, let Him bring out of the good treasures of our heart.
Today, instead of reviling, or even negativity, find the positive. The positive is there and when the positive comes out it should come out in positive words. Instead of complaining, send up praising. Instead of muttering about what’s going wrong, what is going right? What has Jesus done? What is Jesus working on now? What has he begun turning around?
Prayer:
Lord, may these words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. May You bring out in me the positive instead of the negative. Bring out in me the blessings and not the cursing’s. Bring out in me the joy and not the gloom. In Your name Lord Jesus I ask, Amen!
