Lifting Up Our Hands to God

Psalms 63:3-4 ESV

“Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. So I will bless you as long as I live; in your name I will lift up my hands.”

Raising our hands to God is a sign of praise and adoration. I know some do not like to lift up their hands and arms in praise because it makes them uncomfortable, but sometimes that sign of adoration is needed. After all, doesn’t God deserve to be adored, honored and praised?

Raising our hands to God can be seen as a connection to God. It is almost like we are reaching up to God as He reaches down to us at the same time. God is honored by our praise and He desires the close connection with His children.

Think of it this way; when our children were small and just beginning to walk, what was their gesture when they came stumbling towards us? They were reaching up for us to pick them up and carry them. Often we want the Father to pick us up and hold us and carry us through, and He often does. Reach out to our God this morning, ask Him to pick us up and hold us close, and carry us through the day.

Prayer:

Father, we honor You this morning with our voices, with our minds, our hearts and our uplifted hands. We praise You for a new day. We thank You for a fresh start, a new beginning. Father, we need for You to pick us up and carry us through this day. Hold us close Father. In the Lord’s name we ask, Amen!
