Overcoming Power

1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

This passage is about everyone being tempted in some form or fashion, but think deeper. Temptations have occurred to us that many others also have faced. But temptation is not just about general sins that we feel are heinous sins. We are often tempted to worry, tempted to misdiagnose people’s actions or situations. We mistakenly misunderstand something that we have seen or heard. We are tempted to generalize, tempted to act with prejudice, tempted to categorize things how we have conditioned ourselves to handle things.

With these temptations, we have been given a way to escape these ways and heinous sins as well. God is providing a means and ways for us to change every day. We live the way we have always lived and believe we are justified in our actions and thoughts. But every day we need to become more like Jesus and less of ourselves. 

I have realized the more I become like Jesus, my thoughts, feelings and actions are not always justified. I realize that I can get conditioned in this world by worldly views. So, I have to daily put on the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:16)

Prayer:

Lord, no matter how we have been conditioned by life and how to handle life’s circumstances, help us to stop, listen, and react in Your Spirit. In Your name Lord Jesus we ask, Amen!
