In Him We Live
Acts 17:26-28a
“From one man He (God) made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us. ‘For in Him we live and move and have our being…”
Paul quotes a secular poem, the last line in this scripture, in this great speech to the wise Council at Athens. Although they may have been wise in some things, they were serving idols, things crafted by human hands, not smart. Paul introduced these men to his supreme, powerful, all knowing and loving God that created everything for His good pleasure.
God created such a vast expanse of life for our ability to recognize Him in everything that we see and know. Scripture tells us that God is the giver of life and breathe, according to Genesis 2:7. All honor to God!
Our strength, both physical and spiritual, comes from God. “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength”(Isaiah 40:29–31).
Our very existence, our ability to live and move, and our fundamental being are entirely dependent on God.
Prayer:
Lord, You are everything to us. You possess all power, all wisdom, knowledge and understanding. All things were created by You and for You, and You gave them to us. We have not taken very good care of Your creation Lord, but we honor You with our lives. In You we live and move and have our being. In You we have life more abundantly. Thank You Lord, Amen!
