Before Power Can Transpire

John 12:24 ESV

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.”

The oldest seed ever planted that successfully germinated and grew into a plant was a date palm seed, found in the rubble of Masada in Israel. The seed was estimated to be about 2,000 years old. That seed survived 2,000, but in that 2,000 years it never produced anything at all.

Jesus said, “…it (the single seed) remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” Basically, the seed is just a seed until it germinates. When a seed is exposed to the right conditions in the earth, it absorbs water, activating enzymes that initiate growth. The seed coat then breaks open, allowing the root to emerge, then followed by the shoot with leaves and stem.

Before there can be resurrection power and fruitfulness, there must be death so to speak. For me to remain unfruitful in my spiritual walk is a tragedy, wastefulness, an unproductive life. For me to give up my life for Jesus is power and fruitfulness in abundance. I choose to give up my life so Jesus will live through me to bear much fruit.

Prayer:

Lord, this morning, we forsake all that we think we have, so that we can follow you and become who You intended us to be. Lord Jesus, we forsake all to follow after You, Amen!.
