Psalms 40:1 ESV
“I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry.”

The struggle for most Christians is the confidence that God really does listen to every prayer that they pray and the confidence that He answers every prayer they pray.

David had the confidence that God did listen to his prayers. But where did his confidence come from? David had a deep abiding relationship with God but David also had a history with God. When David praised God, he could feel God’s pleasure.

David sought God’s guidance for all important decisions. Nine times we can read where David inquired of the Lord. Each time David got a clear and accurate answer. The Bible does not say how David received his answer, but we know that each time David obeyed what God said, David was victorious.

I’m not going to presume that each time David heard the actual audible voice of God. Yes, the Bible typically says when David inquired of God that God answered David. In most cases David either heard or felt in his Spirit what God said and each time it happened just like God said it would. David had no doubt that God was listening.

It can be that way with us as well. When I have a decision to make, I ask in my Spirit and from my heart what God would have me to do. I never hear the voice of God but I do hear Him in my Spirit and more than not I hear Him in His word. I will search the scriptures and seek God’s Spirit and I always get my answer.

Prayer:
Father, I know you always listen to me and I know you are concerned about my every move and the decisions that I have to make.
