Let Me Hear of Your Love

Psalms 143:8 ESV
“Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.”

I don’t want to somber the mood on Valentines Day, but this Psalm starts out very bleak and then resolves. David says in portions of verses 4-7, “Therefore my spirit faints within me; my heart within me is appalled. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands…my soul thirsts for you like a parched land…answer me quickly, O Lord!

Commentators believe this Psalm was created by David when he was in a war with his son Absalom. David was sadden, distraught and visibly shaken, but one thing David knew how to do, and that was get into the presence of God. He knew God would bring him out,

He knew righteousness would prevail, so he wrote in the next verse; “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.” Basically, “Lord I need to hear from you early in the morning of how much you love me.” After a night of tossing and turning and lamenting about his son Absalom, David needed to wake up to know how much the Father loved him.

I like that, despite what is going on around us, what we need to be reminded of is how much we are loved. God loves us unconditionally without end. His love never grows cold, He never falls out of love with us, He never changes His mind about us. His love has and will always be the same, no matter what we do, or do not do.

Prayer:
Father, I need to hear You sing over me this morning, to hear how much you love me, to know You love me the same yesterday, today and forever.
