God as Our Shepherd

Psalms 23:1-2
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”

According to King David, God as our Shepherd offers many benefits, he elaborates on 3 benefits in these 2 verses:

1) When God is our Shepherd, we will not be in want or we will not lack what we need as His cared for sheep.

2) He always leads us at times into green pastures or for us, places where we will be nourished, provided for. A place where He can stand watch over us, protect us from harm.

3) He will lead us by still waters. Still waters are refreshing but also not scary to young sheep. Still waters are inviting, soothing and a sign of provision, the sheep see they have what they need, when they need it.

In short, God leads us, guides us, protects us, and restores us continually, He provides so that we lack no good thing that we need. If we find ourselves in want, we need to go to the Shepherd, but understand to call Him our Shepherd, we have to put our lives completely in His hands. There is no half way with God.

Prayer:
I’m not ignorant enough to think I can make my own way, forge my own path, and come out on top. I submit to You, to lead me, guide me, direct me, and provide for all my needs.
