Bringing Out the Old and the New

Matthew 13:52
“And He (Jesus) said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

As children of God we have been given the rights and responsibilities to relate God’s word to those who are in our fellowship and those who are in our world. This parable is almost never spoken about in church. Mainly because most pastors believe that they are the Scribes of this story. As children of God, we are all responsible in relating God’s word using the Old and New Testament.

Yes, we live under grace, and we live out the New Testament in our everyday lives but the whole word of God has to be proclaimed. 1 Corinthians 10:11 says, “Now these things (the things written down) happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.”

For this parable, the owner brought out treasures that were old, and treasures that are new, the things of the Old Testament and the things found in the New Testament. Master both the Old Testament and the New Testament in order to bring out ALL the truths found in God’s words.

Prayer:
Teach us Lord! Enlighten our eyes according to Your words. Give us understanding in Your words and give us the ability to articulate the message of Your words to all that we come in contact with. In Jesus’s name, Amen!
