Mark 11:13-14 ESV
“…seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.  And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.”

The presence of a fruitful fig tree was considered to be a symbol of blessing and prosperity in Israel. Likewise, the absence or death of a fig tree would symbolize judgment and rejection. Symbolically, the fig tree represented the spiritual deadness of Israel, who while very religious outwardly, were spiritually barren because of their sins.

If we are created to bear fruit, but are rebellious and refuse to bear fruit, we will be cursed. Jesus spoke the following words in John 15: 1-2 ESV. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.  Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.”

You and I know how to bear fruit but if we refuse we will be judged as well. But if we bear fruit, we will be empowered to bear even more fruit. Our choice!”

Prayer:
Father, I pray that I learn from the judgment of Israel. To look religious or even talk religious is not enough. I have to bear fruit, in season or out of season. I know I have been created for good works, help me to do what I’ve been called to do!
