Seeking

Matthew 6:31-33 ESV
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Concentrating on getting things seems to be the focus of the world, (the people that Jesus is calling Gentiles, are those who do not believe in God). We see it every day, we see that house, the cars, and clothing, it seems to be what captures the attention of the masses.

Jesus says that that is a wrong focus. The focus should be God. If God were truly first place in our lives and we believe this scripture, then what we need will be provided. Typically, it is provided in blessings or in gifts or better jobs, or raises, or maybe a bump up in our social security for those who are recipients of social security or even investments that are earning more.

When I was young, I took a job with a circuit board manufacturing company at a low-level job. In a years’ time, I became supervisor. My next job I took a low-level job in construction, a carpenter’s helper, with a company in South Florida, and again I made job foreman in a year and supervisor in eighteen months. No one dropped money in my lap, but God provided the opportunities and the promotions.

I was not necessarily looking for these promotions, but I worked hard, trusted God to provide, and achieved these promotions. I received with these promotions an upscale raise. I give all the glory to God, because I was serving Him the best that I could. I wasn’t perfect, but I tried to always put Him first in my life.

I found out in life, it is not the hard work only, it is the hard work and giving my life to God. He has always provided “these things” for me and my family.

Prayer:
Lord, we put You first. We look to You the Author and Finisher of our faith, our all in all. This morning, we seek You first, even in our needs we set them aside to honor You, not for what we can get, but for the fact that when we seek You, You take care of “these things” that we need. Thank You for providing “these things” for us Lod Jesus, AMEN!
