Isaiah 53:4-5 ESV

“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed.”

We call this Good Friday, I always thought that was a misnomer. Yes, Jesus showed His love for us by the torture He went through and by taking the punishment we deserve, And I appreciate that love, but it’s excruciating to think of the pain He endured for me and you.

Through His suffering we gained peace that passes all understanding. We gained forgiveness of all our sins, past, present and future. We gained eternal life, we will live forever. We gained justification, just as if we never sinned. We gained a new life, we live through Jesus and Jesus lives in us. We gained open access to the throne of God, we can go to God anytime, we don’t have to go through a priest.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for Your love for us and that You gave us Your only Son to suffer and die in our place. Father, we were separated from you by our sin and shame but Your Son’s sacrifice paid our debt. A veil separated us from You, but when Your Son died, that separation was torn in two. Thank You Father, thank You Lord Jesus!
