“Luke 24:13-21 ESV

“Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus… They were talking with each other about everything that had happened.  As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing Him.”

These two men were (kept) from recognizing Jesus for a reason. They had a preconceived notion of who the Messiah was supposed to be. They thought that He was going to redeem Israel by conquering the Roman’s and sitting on the throne, but in their private time together with Jesus, He opened up their eyes to the scriptures. Which, in turn, opened up their eyes to Jesus as the Messiah, and the price that He paid for them.

You and I get preconceived notions too, and just like these two men Jesus will be happy to open up the scriptures for us so we can see the truth, but it takes reading His words, understanding, which the Holy Spirit gladly provides, and letting our eyes be open to the truth instead of preconceived notions.

Prayer:
Father, I need you to help not make snap judgments, or have preconceived notions about You, Your word, or Your Son. Help me to always be open minded and receptive. Don’t let me be too blind to see the truth!
