Great Faith or Just Get by Faith?

Luke7:2-3,6-9 ESV
“Now a centurion had a servant who was sick and at the point of death, who was highly valued by him.  When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent to Him elders of the Jews, asking Him to come and heal his servant.

And Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to him, “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.  Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed.  For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turning to the crowd that followed him, said, “I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith.”

Explanation:
This Centurion was not a follower of Jesus, he was a Gentile in a hostile Roman army. But he had something that was rare. He had faith that Jesus was exactly who He claimed to be, the Son of God and that He had ALL power.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures, like great faith that God can and will answer our plea and rescue us. When troubles come, we can exercise a “get by” faith and just get by, or we can exercise extreme faith, great faith, and receive God’s abundance. Do we have great faith that makes Jesus marvel when we ask and believe?

Prayer:
Lord, You have given us a measure of faith that can move mountains, but rarely do we use our full potential of faith. Help our unbelief. I know You can part the red seas in our lives…if we would just ask. In Your name Lord, Amen!
