Acts 1:4-5 ESV

“And while staying with them He (Jesus) ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, He said, “you heard from Me;  for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Jesus appeared to His disciples over a forty day period after the resurrection. We don’t know all the things that He taught His Disciples but He did tell them to wait in Jerusalem for a promise from God to be fulfilled.. He said to them, “you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

This baptism is dismissed by most denominations as a part of salvation, and it is hard for most pastors to explain what this baptism really is. But 50 days after Jesus’s resurrection the Disciples would experience this baptism first hand. This baptism is a different event from salvation according to all the stories in the New Testament. But this experience is necessary for the power of God to work through the believer.

Prayer:
Father, I may not understand fully the baptism of the Holy Spirit, But if it is the power to be a better witness, a more affective witness, I want it!
