Dreams Turned to Ashes

Genesis 37:20,25,27 ESV
“Come now, let us kill him (Joseph) and throw him into one of the pits… And they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it. Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead… Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites…”

Joseph was on top of the world, he was his fathers favorite son, he had dreams of greatness. In one days time all his dreams and asperations were gone. His brothers conspired to kill him, he was thrown into a pit, unsure of his future, and then he was sold to a band of Ishmaelites that bought and sold him like a piece of merchandise. Can it get any worse for Joseph? Yes, this is just the tip of the iceberg of Joseph’s downward spiral.

Life happens like that sometimes. I’ve watched more than a few dreams in my life crumble, but what God gave me instead cannot be compared. My best advice? I like to sing to myself that says, “My dreams turned to ashes, my castles all crumbled, my fortune turned to loss, so I wrapped it all up in the rags of my life and I laid them at the cross. Then He (God) made something beautiful…” Forget the broken dreams, the failures, the things that just did not work out, and give it all to God and watch Him make a great future.

Prayer:
Father, I’ve never been through what Joseph had to go through, but I have had broken dreams. But You have made some amazing things happen in my life!
