Unbelief

Mark 9:21-24 ESV
“And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”

And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”  Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

Unbelief is not having any faith at all, as a matter of fact, it is sometimes translated as having little faith or unused faith. We have all been given a measure of faith according to Romans 12:3. Iff we do not use the faith that we have been given it becomes unbelief.

Jesus said that if we have the faith as a grain of mustard seed, that is all we need to do great things for God. I believe our Lord’s intent in this reference was to plant the mustard seed (put our faith into action) and watch it grow. (Matthew 17:20)

An unplanted mustard seed cannot do anything sitting on a windowsill, but if we plant it, water it, cultivate it, it will grow into a mighty plant. So, today, we take the mustard seed, our faith, plant it and see what God can do in our lives.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to stop holding on to the mustard seed, our faith in a sense, and plant it, put it to work. We water that mustard seed, the measure of faith, with prayer and reading Your word.

We ask that You protect our faith from the enemy, we put action to our faith today signifying that doubt and unbelief are gone. In Your name Lord, Amen!
