One Plants, Another Waters but God Gives the Increase

1 Corinthians 3:7-9 ESV
“So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.  He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor.  For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.”

Paul was trying to deflect the attitudes of the Church at Corinth. They came from an extremely pagan background. Some were saying they were of the Apollos teaching, others said they were of Paul’s teaching. Paul said there is no difference, there is only one Gospel.

Paul may plant, Apollos may water, but God gives the increase. For us, we may plant a seed of faith in someone’s life and they may or may not accept Jesus Christ right away. But someone else may come along to that same person and share the gospel again to that person and they receive Christ, thats watering the seed.

We can’t get hung up on who got them to the point of salvation, all that matters is they received Jesus Christ. I may preach a sermon and it just seems to not move anyone, but someone can come along and preach the same sermon and it brings people to Jesus in a more meaningful way. It’s God who brings the increase, His way, and His timing. Just plant seeds and let someone else water it and watch God bring that soul to Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Father, I have planted seeds and watered others seed for 46 years. Any soul that came to Jesus through what I have said and done is Yours, not mine. I’m just thankful that You used me.
